Do you have ephemera, such as documents, photos, or any other items just taking up space? How about books or clothing? If you think it relates to our Mead history, then don't sell or toss them! Donate them to us. We are building our archives, one piece of paper and artifact at a time. For more information on donating your precious items, Contact our archive manager here
Some recent donations include collections from the Doke and McCormick families and an 1908 corporate seal for the Markham Lateral Ditch Co.
Examples of some of the items we are looking for.
Irrigation/Early Settler Artifacts
Irrigation and the ditches that supply the water are an important part of our history. Without water, sugar beets, wheat, barley, and other local crops could not be grown. Helping to preserve this history is an important part of our mission.
Photos, documents, histories, and items that help to tell the story, are all needed.
We are also looking for items that were used by the early settlers to this area. Items that illustrate what life once was like before electricity, telephones, or even indoor plumbing.
Photos and other Memorabilia
Photos tell stories that often other objects cannot. We will accept either the actual photos or scan them into our collection while you keep the original.
We are also looking for other paper items such as school records, program books/Announcements from clubs and organizations that used to be in our area, ration tickets and other memorabilia from Mead's heyday, and other related items.
Along with the above, WWI and WWII era military items, records, photos, and posters from this area, are all on our wish list.
Business/Advertising Items
In their heydays, Mead, Highlandlake and Liberty Hall all had thriving businesses, yet so little is left to speak of their existence.
Do you have items that can be tied to businesses that once thrived in this area?
Some Examples:
Photos of both the exterior and interior of stores. Giveaways were common, such as pretty paper cards with the store's name stamped on it, metal or wooden tokens, maps, holiday songbooks, dishes, and other items.
